Reading Horizons offers help for local job seekers
January 2010
North Salt Lake, Utah – Reading Horizons announced a reading program to help individuals obtain literacy levels necessary for their jobs.
According to Reading Horizons, most jobs require a 10th-grade reading level, as do most job applications themselves. Reading Horizons also cited the National Institute for Literacy as saying that more than 20 percent of adults read at or below a fifth-grade level.
Reading Horizons listed several reasons literacy skills were important, including the need to increase basic writing and spelling skills to fill out applications and create resumes, as well as to read material associated with the job, the uncertain economy and more.
The program Reading Horizons uses can improve a reader’s skills by two to five grade levels. It also includes helping people with online resources for job hunting.
